What Is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy that helps your brain process difficult experiences that may still be affecting you today.

Sometimes, even after an experience is over, your mind and body can continue reacting as if it’s still happening. EMDR helps your brain reprocess those experiences so they feel less overwhelming, allowing you to move forward with greater confidence and peace.

How Is EMDR Different?

Traditional talk therapy helps you better understand your thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and experiences. EMDR works differently.

Rather than focusing only on talking through an experience, EMDR helps your brain process memories that may feel “stuck.” As those memories are reprocessed, many people notice that emotional triggers become less intense and their reactions begin to change.
